Migration

After an aborted try, and much soul-searching, I am now finally ensconced in the island-nation of Singapore, to try my luck in a rat race of a different arena.

I'd like to extend my thanks to all my friends, and my relatives, who have supported me throughout this time. Whatever success this new phase of my life will bring will definitely be a reflection of the help you have given me.

A Month After, and Two Days Too Late

Again, looking for a new job. Staying at work was fun, but now, strangely, I go from working, to working student, to just student. Later, it'll be delinquent student...

06 June 2007

Summon the Thunder

Well, after a brief stint of "trying to be SQL savvy and only somewhat succeeding", I am back to prototyping, and what a doozy it is! A veritable whirlwind of changes. I do hope we can get to finish by tomorrow.

29 May 2007

Escapism

Am sort of escaping (lack of allotted) work right now, trying to be productive by scanning my mails. Isn't this the reason why there isn't access normally? But I don't want to do this often.

I will be back at my station in a bit, but it does feel good to be typing with purpose...

18 May 2007

Standby

Today's dinner was interesting, as it had mojos with them. What's interesting is that I didn't pay for the mojos.

Anyways, today was the first standby that I had stood by, and it was interesting. I am reminded of how much more work our bosses have, because I'm fairly sure that they're still there, talking with their overseas counterparts, trying to make ends meet, where one end is the end user, and the other end is, well, me. Of course, all the interesting stuff happens in-between and thus must be realized at that level.

I'm mostly thankful that I'm at home now, instead of later.

10 May 2007

Home is Where You Lay Your Head Down...

... when not laid close to the keyboard. Barely made the train home, but it's all right. Still have seven screens for tomorrow, which are hopefully easier than those made today or yesterday.

And this is supposed to be easier?

Narcolepsy

If I don't survive this week, it'll be due to my heightened state of perpetual sleepiness. On the plus side, work keeps me awake. On the minus side, repetitive work feels like non-work, and I start to drowse.

At least I've gotten over this Monday's shellacking. And my legs aren't tightening up anymore.

08 May 2007

Antiquated Methods

Dunno why that title comes to mind, but it may just be how I feel about myself at the moment. Trying to digest a little, hopefully to finish today's packed lunch.

Screen and Re-Screen

Last week was fairly hectic, full of little tweaks and major upheavals. Quite a number of low-sleep-count nights.

So. This is work, eh? If I say Bring it on! will it actually be brought on? Let sleeping dogs lie, I suppose.

28 April 2007

Saturday Saturday

For nothing but repetitive fun, try fixing column widths in a table where rows can be added or reappeared. I'm fairly certain that there's a faster, more reliable way to do this, so if anyone out there knows, drop a line.

23 April 2007

Through to the Future?

After a fairly interesting week wherein, as anyone within earshot of me could attest that I had claimed, I had barely had 20-odd hours of sleep for the week, and my best prerelease to date (even if I didn't get to make the best deck in my cardpool), I come back and stay until 9:15 just to break even for the day. :( Well, there's still the rest of the week...

17 April 2007

Prototypical

Okay. Get your watches ready: I'll be 0 to 30 screens in three weeks!

11 April 2007

Elapsation

Apparently, the more frequently my other online persona is blogging, the less often this blog is updated.

Nothing much going on here. Some things are on hold, while others begin. The on-the-job trainees are here, and, boy, do they look familiar.

22 March 2007

Arbitrary

Posting once more. I once said, in another blog, almost a lifetime ago, that broadband kills creativity. With about three weeks worth of net back under my belt, I can acquiesce to that idea once more. However, that's mostly due to some six months downtime prior, so I am just catching up. Not quite caught up yet, mind you. Getting my feet wet, maybe.

11 March 2007

Mish-Mash

I think I have a better handle on things, and stuff can now be properly arranged. If only I can sleep early enough...

06 March 2007

Day-to-Day

Hmmm... the lifestyle has changed, sending me home to do my blogging, instead of watching some fun draft action. I'm on week 5 of my "what the heck is wrong with my PC?" stint, and hopefully, it'll come to a close in the weekend.

Work ways, I've just done some prettifying that is also very practical and, tomorrow, I hope to break everything in PT. That's just the kind of guy I am.

01 March 2007

My Back

And, this, safely said, is being typed in the comfort of my own room.

26 February 2007

And... I Didn't Get to Go to a Homecoming

My apologies for not paying too much attention to life in general. The Department just celebrated a post-silver anniversary, at the new building. I hadn't kept tabs on it, and thus did not go.

I hope all you guys had a great time! I want pictures!

22 February 2007

Time in for Confusion?

On the first day of assignment, I found myself, at the middle of the day: sleepy, then anxious, then confused, then hella confused, and then somewhat progressive. Now I still have the vestiges of the confusion still a haze in my mind, so I guess all of this can be solved by one thing: sleep.

19 February 2007

Where are the Peeps?

It's 8, and I went up here at around 7:30. I know people were around at 6:30, but there's supposed to be people left. Where?

18 February 2007

Freebies!

Finished and presented the final exercise yesterday, told that I should learn AJAX next, then went off to the nearby mall to join a Sudoku tournament. Whoops... it's at another mall, so I take the train, walk through two other malls, and end up waiting to see if they'd let walk-ins participate.

Good thing, too, otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten the gift pack from getting into the finals. :)

15 February 2007

Two Days to Go

My todo list for the exercise has considerably shortened, and lengthened mostly due to those "creative" choices I've recently made. Now I have one technical problem to solve, one small screen to make, a dynamic stylesheet to partly code... and lots of documentation.

Make that one day and one-and-a-half hours before the presentation...

14 February 2007

Ekeing the Value Out of a Project

Just when I thought that I would just be focussing on the lighter side, I make a bug in one of the interfaces I'm using, which is weird since it uses the same tools as another interface, and that other one works fine (at least with respect to the problem of the first). Anyways, most of what I want to do is done, and soon it'll be rigorous testing, documentation, and maybe still some more tweaks.

And I realize that I now have two days left...

13 February 2007

Another Disaster Averted, Thanks to... Paracetamol

One Biogesic was sufficient to get me through the rest of the day, and here I am, well, doing nothing but watching and waiting.

On the work side, it's about time to get creative. Will be doing some cleaning up, some documentation, and then the flexing of very very small creative muscles.

Illness Takes Me Once a Month

Apparently, my time of the month sees me under the weather, like last month. This time, it's the new sleeping conditions in the room. I thought it was just the combination of computing excitement and lack of sleep, but last night saw me sleeping early - and waking with an aching body.

I've had this before. It's the stiff neck where only your neck feels okay.

12 February 2007

Urgh... Sleep...

The past few nights have not been early sleep nights, and despite the fact that it was the weekend, it made me rush around doing things in half-daze mostly, but with some amount of progress.

Speaking of progress, my first brick wall has arrived, and I'm still trying to see how to get around it. I'm sure there's a door or a gate here somewhere...

08 February 2007

Cradlin' the Headache

Okay, now I know for a fact that staring at a program for longer than twelve hours in two days cannot be healthy. So I went online to look at stuff that actually works.

07 February 2007

Start of a Long Day

Actually, of the longest single programming project I will undertake, barring the thesis program I am now planning to port to Java. I will now expend all I have learned over the last five weeks to make something.

And, boy, I hope it won't be ugly.

05 February 2007

Time Out for Bad Behavior?

This weekend saw me lugging home a satisfying new box that is still slightly underwhelming me, maybe because even though it is technically fully functional, one of its major raison-de-etre has dissipated, at least for another month. No, I don't mean that I still have no broadband, although I may plug that the service has gotten cheaper, which I am looking forward to.

I needs me some mad budgeting skillz. :(

02 February 2007

High on the Wing

The upper floor at night is a lot looser, more comfortable than the work hours. And Friday is full of people resting and playing.

I really do think I like working here. :)

31 January 2007

The Next One's on Me

Which should be in a couple of months.

One month down, some evaluations, a fifth language to work with, and hopefully, I'll have a first taste of actually project development. Maybe I'll get to bowl soon, next week. And there'll be fewer tutees.

Must remember to inquire about entrance policies for the old Alma Mater. You know, the first job. Not the second.

Oh, and I have a test to give on Sunday.

This is change?

27 January 2007

200 and Other Unimportant Numbers

I was very late for work today, but I still logged in the requisite hours, and still tried my hand at some training exercises. Tomorrow, I will go to my tutees to try and enrich their lives a little (with the agreeable side-effect of enriching my finances). Monday, I will back in front of my unit at work and will do more exercises to improve my work capabilities.

In fact, next week will be a fairly ordinary week, ending a fairly ordinary month, and starting another month that is promising to be as ordinary as the last month.

All this ordinariness, aside from the number of changes that have been happening in my life, and some more that are promising to happen as well.

Sigh.

25 January 2007

It's Been a While

Been more than a few days since my last post, but that isn't to say that the action has slacked. I have just gone through my two worst exercises to date, and it does not help that they were the most recent ones. I still have one on tap today. Good thing I still have about a day in advanced time, but I will try some things later today, so I should just be ahead by about half a day.

Anyways, forging ahead?

20 January 2007

The Game

Well, I'd never thought I'd be too early for work. Yet here I am, slogging away a floor above, waiting for someone to open the doors downstairs.

Oh yeah, and Inversion pre-releases today. Sorry, I mean Planar Chaos. Roy should know what I mean.

12 January 2007

Quikc!

this is me typing as quickly as i can so i can be downstairs as quickly as i can possilby be

11 January 2007

Sneaking About

I'm sneaking a little early to go online so I can use my favorite Net-enabled PC here. Am starting to get good at surfing quickly again, but it means that I'm reading far less than usual.

Trivia of the day: The only actor to be in the 1984 movies "The Philadelphia Experiment" and "Streets of Fire" is the star Michael Pare.

Hey, I didn't mean to be enlightening. :p

Time Off for Bad Habits

Cast my first absence from work yesterday, due to my body not handling the stress it was under. Actually, I'm not fully recovered yet, but as the respiratory problem is now gastrointestinal, I am sure it's on the way out. On Monday afternoon, it started out as a sore throat, which, on Tuesday, became the flu, and yesterday went from sinusitis to a mere runny nose (I had hoped). Mucus secretions have run from green to yellow to colorless to now yellow (nose) and green (throat). As I said, today it's gastrointestinal.

Sigh. Self-medication is so hit-miss.

09 January 2007

Under the Weather

Okay, I'll admit it. The reason why I'm not feeling too well is the fact that I stayed up late Sunday evening. And that I actually have been on the road for at least 6 hours everyday since the first of January.

Training is pretty good. I hope my body isn't breaking anytime soon.

05 January 2007

Dizziness

Yesterday, after departing from the building, I told Paul I got dizzy - he says it's the same for his first two weeks on the job. Today, a little winded from the exercises and lessons. Got my wind back, slightly.

04 January 2007

All New

With the start of the new year, I find myself with a new job. It may not surprise many that I am now working as a Junior Programmer (in training) at Azeus Systems Philippines in Ortigas, but anyone who has only known me through my college degree (and masteral courses) will be scratching their heads.

It's currently day two of training, and I'm spending my afternoon break in the "other" locale for the company, and trying to maximize the "personal use" computers.

Anyways, I hope everyone has had a similarly enriching new year so far.
